Cushion cover, hand-stitched in Belgium. The Sand cover was made in April 2026 and it is one of a kind.
Fabric
Composition: 100% wool.
The fabric used for the Sand cushion cover is a Japanese vintage fabric, likely from the second half or late 20th century. The base colour is a dark beige or greige, with accents in light bright yellow. The pattern in this textile is achieved through ikat-dyed yarns.
Ikat is an ancient technique thought to have originated in Southeast Asia in the 5th century. Its name, ikat, derives from the Malay-Indonesian word mengikat, meaning “to tie” - this is a reference to the technique in itself, which consists in tying strips of fiber around unwoven yarns before dyeing them. The dyeing process then produces colour variations across the yarn which, when woven into a textile, delivers rich and intricate patterns.
Through ikat, the design of the textile is therefore created through the dyeing process rather than through weaving. This makes ikat complex and labour-intensive, and a technique highly admired and valued around the world.
The Sand cushion cover is sewn entirely by hand. It is removable.
