Materials
lucerito uses vintage, second-hand and deadstock fabrics only.
For any other material that is part of the process of making a lucerito item (threads, packaging…), priority is always given to finding options that already exist and can be re-used and repurposed.
If newly-made is the only option available, special consideration is given to supporting small and independent businesses; supporting manufacturing within the EU, and preferably in Belgium; and supporting the use of recycled materials, as well as materials that can be easily recycled.
Fabric
Every lucerito item is made using vintage, second-hand and deadstock fabrics only.
When sourcing fabrics, priority is always given to natural fibres, specifically cotton, wool, silk and linen.
For each of fabrics used, as much detail as possible is provided in the description page of the lucerito item: on its origin, the time period it was made in, composition, and any other information or context about the production and/or previous or intended use of that fabric.
Thread
Two types of thread go into lucerito items:
The threads used in visible areas (for instance, on coverings or on the line of stitches visible on back of cushions) are vintage, sourced from Japan and France. They are often 100% silk, and sometimes 100% wool or 100% cotton.
The threads used in hidden areas (for instance, the inside stitching of cushions and wool inserts) are 100% organic cotton, purchased in my local haberdashery, and made in the European Union.
Wool
The wool used in lucerito’s cushion inserts is sourced from a small business in Wallonia, Belgium, run by a couple. 100% of the wool originates from local Belgian farms, and is scoured and prepped for use in also in Belgium.
The sheep whose wool goes into lucerito’s cushions are of the Île-de-France breed, which is known for its cream-white fleece.
Packaging
The cardboard boxes used to ship lucerito’s items are made out of 70% recycled cardboard, and along with the paper tape and wrapping, they are fully recyclable. The yarn that ties your lucerito item is vintage and 100% wool.
lucerito’s thank you notes are also vintage, from the 1950s, from Portugal.
